Mouse was a small creature with a heart as vast as the forest. He lived in the woods near a babbling brook that wound like a silver thread through the velvet moss. Today it was not just any day, but a special day, for it was Friday, and Fridays were known far and wide as Friday Wishes Day.
Mouse, in his little boat, set sail early in the morning. His whiskers twitched with excitement, and his tiny paws were eager. He had a treasure trove of berries, cherries, and a small, lovely piece of cake in his boat. The cherry, plump and shining like a little ruby, sat beside him, his favourite.
As he sailed downstream, the cool breeze played with the edges of his scarf. "My favourite is cherry," thought Mouse as he hugged it close, feeling its comforting sweet roundness. He was on a mission to deliver Friday Wishes to his friends in the forest.
High up in the trees, the birds watched Mouse navigate the river's twists and turns. They knew about Friday Wishes and chirped cheerily, "Good luck, little Mouse! Good luck!" Their voices echoed as if the very air whispered with goodwill.
First, Mouse stopped at Rabbit's burrow. Rabbit, a gentle soul, was delighted to see Mouse. "Oh, Mouse, what brings you here on this fine morning?" she asked, her nose twitching with curiosity.
"Friday Wishes!" Mouse proclaimed, presenting her with a handful of berries. Rabbit's burrow filled with laughter as her little ones bounded around.
Next, he visited Badger, who was notoriously grumpy in the mornings. But even Badger couldn't resist a smile when he saw Mouse's offering. "Well, I suppose it is a good morning, after all," grumbled Badger as he accepted a slice of cake. His heart felt a tad lighter, a rare feeling that made his whiskers twitch in an unusual smile.
As the sun climbed, Mouse's boat took him to the wise old Owl. Owl, who usually slept through the day, waited for Mouse, for even wise old owls look forward to Friday Wishes. "Ah, young Mouse," Owl hooted softly, "your heart is as generous as the river is long." Mouse felt a glow of pride as he handed Owl some cherries, saving just one for himself.
At last, as the shadows began to lengthen and the stream sang its way home, Mouse felt a contented tiredness. He had one cherry left, and as he sailed back to his cosy nook under the Old Oak, he thought about the joy of giving. "Friday Wishes," he whispered to the stream, "may they sail far and wide."
And the stream, carrying his words like precious cargo, whispered back, "As far as your heart, little Mouse, as far as your heart."
And so it was, and so it would be, in the whispering woods by the babbling brook, where every Friday, wishes came true, all because of a little Mouse with a big heart and a boat full of berries, his favourite cherries, and a delicious, lovely, lovely piece of cake.
